Cedar Falls: Overview Session

Do you have some extra room in your home AND heart?

Consider becoming a foster parent for Iowa's children!

We are looking for families who can care for larger sibling groups and school aged children who need safe foster homes!

Youth enter foster care through no fault of their own and need a caring, stable family for temporary care, a few days to several months, or for the purpose of permanency through guardianship or adoption.

Foster parents can be a single person or a partnered or married couple and come from diverse and varied backgrounds.

If you want to help but aren’t ready to become a foster parent, you can make a difference by referring someone you know who would be a great foster/adoptive family or by volunteering to help us get the word out about Four Oaks Fostering Connections.

Please plan to attend and hear more about how you can help your community support children & families in the child welfare system.

Waterloo/Cedar Falls: The Benefit to “Being With” a Child *cancelled*

Waterloo/Cedar Falls: The Benefit to “Being With” a Child *cancelled*

Too often we "parent" or educate children.  We forget the need and the how to of simply being with a child.  We forget how "being with" a child allows them to be seen and heard.  This will grow into the child feeling valued and important.  As a child feels that they are worth "being with", they grow a stronger sense of self, internal motivation and self-responsibility.  This is the key to successful and healthy relationships. This training is approved for 3 hours foster parent training credit.

Cedar Falls: Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

Cedar Falls: Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

The work of supporting children who have been exposed to violence is a community responsibility, and the child protection system is one partner in that critical effort. However, the presence of even one loving and supportive adult in the life of a child who has been exposed to domestic violence (DV) can make all the difference in the world. When a family’s involvement in the child protection system leads to temporary out-of-home placement or adoption of a child, a skilled and compassionate foster, kin, or adoptive parent can be that lifeline for the child. This training session will educate resource families on the dynamics of domestic violence, the impact of exposure of domestic violence on children and strategies for supporting children who have been exposed to domestic violence. This training is approved for two hours of foster parent training credit.
